As a mother and grandmother activities for the children of our community such as swim meets, swimming lessons, and water aerobic exercise programs are very important to me. Also, having senior, single rates, and family rates for monthly and yearly passes would give all community members of all financial means the opportunity to enjoy the pool. I am voting for both 1 & 2.
What Is Important To Me As Your Elected Councilwoman
What I would like to see is total operating expenditures of the new facility to ensure we can meet the financial abilities of our seniors for rates. Also, I would like to review the projected completion costs of the projects and have a firmer expectation of what 90% will equate as the deficient burden will have to come from another source for construction and operation. Do you know that less than 35% of construction projects come within 10% of the budget? What is the projection for construction cost including possible cost overruns and how will it change the source of funding, redesign, reduction of amenities, operating expenses, or increased swimming rates? Projects rarely stay on budget as unexpected events can and do occur. We have seen this before. I think that would provide clarity, accuracy, and transparency for informed decision-making.
What Does Success Look Like?
Success of any public project that brings the best results for the community is not just about asking questions. It's about asking the right questions. That is what experience brings. Specific questions create specific results and they are knowledge based. When you ask the right questions, you get the right answers and you can inform the public and answer questions about the project diligently. That brings transparency to the community. That's why experience matters. Expect more.
